Andrea Yates, Mothers who Kill

In season 3, episode 10, one sees the murder of by Andrea Yates in Texas. The show is titled Mothers who Kill and Discovery ID describes it as, “Shocking stories of mothers murdering their own flesh and blood.”


Andrea Yates was convicted at her first trial and sentenced to prison. She was tried again and found to be not guilty by reason on insanity. She was remanded to a mental institution where she remains. Her first trial was a miscarriage of justice. She never denied killing her children and was honest about what had happened. Thankfully, she was able to get the help she actually needed. Her husband divorced her and remarried despite his religious convictions. One can not help but feel he failed her in so many ways - continuing to have children despite being repeatedly told this was not what was best for their children or Andrea.

Patricia Silberstein DIY Burial

In season 10, episode 10, the murder of Anthony "Tony" Wojcik by Patricia Silberstein is shown. The show is titled DIY Burial and Discovery ID's Deadly Women describes as An aspiring Olympic equestrian finds a solution to her financial woes; a young divorcee decides to get rid of her ex-husband for good; a greedy woman sets her eyes on a wealthy widower for her next victim.. Patricia Silberstein was Convicted of 1st Degree Murder with and sentenced to 22 years, 7 months, and 6 days. Later, she is given a 15-year sentence, which she serves, and dies three years after her release. This crime occurred in 1977, she is released 1991 and dies in 1994. At the end of the day, if you do not learn that murder is never the answer from this, you never will.

Sylvia Seegrist, Twisted Minds

In season 2, episode 6, one sees the murder three people, and the wounding of 7 others by Sylvia Seegrist in Pennsylvania. The show is titled Twisted Minds and Discovery ID describes it as, “In Pennsylvania, a mentally disturbed woman opens fire on shoppers at a mall; depression drives a woman to smother her children to death; a Florida nurse murders 12 nursing home residents” She was found guilty but insane at the time of her trial. She suffered from schizophrenia from an early age and had been sexually abused by her grandfather. Sylvia Seegrist was sentenced to three consecutive life sentences and seven consecutive 10-year terms. She is not eligible for parole.
